So it was a brief weekend, one that I have come out of feeling slightly cheated. I am one of those people that needs her own space and time to relax. But the maisonette we've just bought still looks like a builders yard and needed serious attention.
So instead of relaxing and doing sporadic bits of housework I have spent the entire weekend stood on a chair taping and jointing our ceilings. Which means filling in the gaps between the bits of plasterboard that have just gone up.
We didn't envision having to replace the original ceilings but when we found out that there was:
A. no soundproofing between ourseves and the flat upstairs, you could literally hear him stirring his tea.
B. nothing really supporting his floor and the structural engineer told us that he could fall through the floor into our flat "at any time" we got a bit freaked and had to put in a load of steel beams.
Builders. What a nightmare. I kind of expected it though as I don't know anyone who has had a good experience with them. Ours is an alchoholic whose breath smells of whisky. In retrospect, probably not the best choice but too late now.
I went to see the new Pride & Prejudice film on Friday night. I gritted my teeth and managed not to shout out loud at the bits I didn't like. I'm not a Jane Austen afficionado apart from this particular novel. Which I love. Anyway the guy playing Darcy was OK in the end. And Keira wasn't actually that bad either in fact. I liked the series though which I still vastly prefer.
PS I have just put a photo onto my profile which is a bit of a cheesefest. Apologies but I had trouble with the one I actually wanted as it was too big a file. We were at a friends wedding hence Nick's suit and the gorgonzola grins.
