To be here or not to be here?

The bets are on.

My in-laws are due to be touching down at Guernsey airport this evening to join us for Christmas. I have bought the (M&S frozen with bacony stuffingy bits) turkey, smoked salmon, about half a tonne of nibbly snacks and a mountain of toilet roll amonst a lot of other stuff.

I have had a strict regime of tidying the house, including such delights as cleaning the windows inside and out, mowing the lawn, removing about 20 cat turds from the lawn, cleaning out drains, removing-washing-ironing and putting back on the sofa covers and cushions plus about a hundred trips to the supermarket for stuff I just remembered in a panic.

And now the weather gods, lets call them Suckhead and Poobum for short, have given us fog. A thick shroud of pea soup fog. And they say it is not clearing until after Christmas. So it might just be me, my husband and Molly curled up on the sofa pulling all the crackers ourselves and giving ourselves type 2 diabetes from all of the Roses chocolates we have consumed in abject misery.

Saying that, there are quite a few friends, relatives etc here in Guernsey and I'm sure a lot of them are in the same boat as us. Well, not literally in a boat because then we would sail over to England and fetch all the people. And my turkey is frozen so I can always leave it in the freezer for another occasion. And I can go out on Christmas Eve and get really hammered without having to worry about waking up early and cooking a feast while trying not to vomit into the gravy! There is always a plus side.

I think they were going to look into that this morning, I don't think that the airline would pay though. There must be quite a few people considering taking the ferry I would have thought so I don't know if there would be any space. Fingers crossed anyway!
