Rahhhhhggg, angsty stuff

What do I do what do I do what do I do???? Hmmm??? Basically, I've been offered a job somewhere else which is good money, a flexible office where you can go off and have 2 hour lunch breaks, I will be working with but not in the same department at Nick and I won't have to work weekends anymore. The long term prospects are v good and the boss lady is a honey, although I have heard differing reports about how nice she is but she has always been more than lovely to me. The role is more sales - y and its a fun young office with cool people around. But its also sales targets and cold calling and stuff along those lines...

OR, do I stay where I am, because I have discussed this with my boss and they have matched the salery (but with no commission which the other one does have), BUT i get a company car all paid for which the other job doesn't have (ha, I just typed company cat, that would be even better!) and I get to keep doing the same job I've worked my way up in for the last 3 1/2 years. I know and love it inside out. But the office is small and a bit skanky and the folk aren't the most funky and cool. But I have a lot of leeway to write blogs etc and its all very laidback indeed. But they would NEVER let me take a 2 hour lunch or come out for a drink.

My boss came around my flat last night to talk it over and it is a really really hard decision for me to make. The new job will be more cool and fun BUT I love doing viewings and selling houses and not to be a bighead but I do it really well. I'm scared I won't like the new job so much.

So, let me know what you think, I'll take a poll on it. I'm asking as many people as I can for advice.

It's always good to challenge yourself and maybe moving to a new place would give you the chance to try out something new whilst you're still young and have the energy to do so and while the offers are there?!

Sounds like a good opportunity!

I say stay where you are. Not only do you already know that you love it, but you will need added stability at this time in your life as you are getting married, which can be a stressful thing.

Your company has been very good to you, matching the salary because they don't want to lose you.

The problem with sales and cold-calling is that ethics can go out of the window. You can end up profiting (by commission) from selling things to people that they don't need and can't afford. That might make it hard to sleep at night!

I say stick with estate agenting!

Do you have the opportunity to work your way up in your current job? I think it sounds like you're really happy there. Maybe you should stay there for now and know that you are wanted elsewhere. Also I hate the cold calling it's so demoralising as most people tell you to piss off immediately and the ones who don't are lonely old people who will agree to something that they don't really want or understand. Hope that helps. x

I wrote a massive reply but it seems to have eaten it! Bah.

I said that if i were you i'd stay where you are because your current job have upped their salary etc, and I really think that jobs that do cold calling and sales are evil. Some people are good at it (like my dad) and thrive on the hard work, but it can be so demoralising. Also, right you have the wedding and the new house to worry about.

I think now you've made it clear that you are thinking about leaving things will cahnge at work, maybe they will develop your role for more challenges and perhaps more responsibility...?

and yeah as steve says the commission thing sounds good but isnt as good as its cracked up to be... and you've got the car now regardless.. whenever I heard OTE or commission in an advert description it makes me want to run a mile. But if you think you can do it, then do it. But sales like that is a whole different kettle of fish. I think you enjoy the element of your job where you get to meet people and take them through all the stages of the move and see them happy in their new home. Sales is quick quick quick and move on.

If you do take it, is there a way that you can maybe try it for a day before you decide? See what an averge aworking day is like, listen in on some calls?
