Where to start!??

What a week.

Where did I leave off? Oh yes, I was reminiscing about the lovely weekend we had on Herm island. That seems so long ago now! Dramatic pause.......

...

So we came back all sunkissed and windswept on our boat, completely exhausted and very happy. The next couple of days were fairly uneventful, then on Wednesday afternoon we had a call from Laurie suggesting we meet down at Port Soif for an evening BBQ. We spent a gorgeous night down on the beach, although it was a bit chilly. It was one of those nights that made me realise how lucky I am to live here.

When we rolled at about 9pm it was to be greeted by a load of answerphone messages. My sister, Suzi, had been rushed into hospital as she had had her routine scan and they had found difficulties with the babies. After some frantic phoning around we discovered that she was having an emergancy cesaerean that night, so we ended up getting not much sleep at all inbetween the worrying and the pacing to and fro.

The next morning Suzi was in recovery and the babies were out, at 32 weeks they were a month and a half premature and the docs weren't sure how they were going to turn out, they were on ventilators etc etc. Suzi was also suffering from an infection of some kind but was on the mend, although on morphine and in pain. THEN we discovered that Nick's little sister had also been taken into hospital! She has a rare disease that affects her bowels and was having a very nasty flare-up. Nick & I decided to go over to the UK straight away & booked ourselves on the Friday evening crossing to Weymouth.

We duly got over and spent the night with Nick's folks. On Sat morning Nick saw his sister briefly in hospital as she wasn't really up for visitors, then we pegged it to Swansea. We went straight to the hospital to meet Suzi, Simon, Ralph & Rowan, who are officially the most gorgeous tiny little creatures in the entire planet. Suzi seemed very tired although definitely on the mend after her op. the twins were so tiny but off the ventilators and wriggling around.

We spent the night with Simon at his parents and on Sunday went back to the hospital after spending a few hours tidying up their new house. (They have just finished building a house and the removal can is set to arrive tomorrow, the timing was just brilliant! So we helped Simon just tidy through and chuck out the rubbish.) Suzi seemed miles better on Sunday and I was able to touch Rowan through the incubator holes! He is slightly bigger than Ralph although Ralph is catching up fast. They are both around 4lb which is a very good weight for preemie babies apparentely. And yes, they are identical. We drobe back to Southampton later that day and, as it was our wedding aniversary, stopped at Pizza Hut in Portswood and had a disgusting greasy dinner to celebrate!

On Monday we spent some time with Nick's sister, who was by now thankfully out of hospital and getting serious bedrest at home, then I headed back to Guernsey on the ferry in the afternoon. Since then I have been chilling out. Nick is still over there and is heading back later this week. The twins are doing increasingly well as each day goes by, and with each day there is less risk of complications/infections. They are getting bigger and stronger, I will put some pics up soon!

Wow talk about drama! I'm sure the twins will be just fine, it's not unusual for twins to be that premature. I saw the pics on Nick's facebook, how cute!! :)
